"Trooping the Colour": King Charles III is expected to take the carriage again in 2025

"Trooping the Colour": King Charles III is expected to take the carriage again in 2025

Due to his cancer, King Charles III will again take a carriage at Trooping the Colour rather than ride.

Trooping the Colour usually takes place annually in June. The military parade celebrates the birthday of the British monarch, even though King Charles III (76) was born in November. On June 14, 2025, he will likely be seen not on horseback, but comfortably in a carriage.

In 2023, Charles returned to his old tradition and participated in his first Trooping the Colour parade as King on horseback and in uniform. However, in February 2024, the palace announced in a statement that diagnostic tests had revealed a form of cancer in Charles. Due to his treatment, he was unable to ride a horse last year and therefore accompanied his wife, Queen Camilla (77), in a sprung carriage during the parade.

According to a report in the Sunday Times, it is now expected that the King will hang up his riding boots, at least for Trooping the Colour—possibly forever. Charles will likely take a carriage again for this year's military parade.

Princess Kate will also be there again

Princess Kate (43), wife of heir to the throne Prince William (42), is also expected to participate again. After she, too, was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, she temporarily returned to William's side at last year's parade. "A memorable day at the King's Birthday Parade," was captioned last June , among other things, alongside several photos on Instagram .

After many weeks away from the spotlight and only a few official engagements, Kate has gradually returned to her duties in recent months. In September 2024, she reported that she had completed her chemotherapy. "It's a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery," she announced in early 2025. In May, Kate also celebrated a return to the traditional British royal garden parties, which she last attended in 2023. These garden parties date back many decades and serve, among other things, to thank outstanding citizens for their contributions.
